 Hi blog!

Now that I finished my music video I answered some reflection questions down bellow.

How does your product use or challenge conventions AND how does it represent social groups or issues?

After looking at my conventions on my research vlog I did do some of what was in my genre but not all. For example if you look through my video you can see that I did a split screen with me and my friend. The one that I didn’t do was diegetic sound because of the switch up from being a birthday surprise party video to a vlog video. I had troubles with our actors scheduling so we decided to just do a vlog. At first with the birthday surprise video me and Mariana were going to talk over some parts of the video but since plans changed we decided not to talk.

Social class is what represents our video because it  shows our teenager life is different from other lives. In my video it shows how we get ready, go to football games, hang out with friends, and party like a normal teenager would. This is unlike other social classes like the elderly because you don’t get to really do this things when you're past the age 70. Even when you’re an adult you don’t really get to do this things because when your an adult you work to become successful. While in your teens you want to go out with your friends and take videos and enjoy those years before adulthood comes. My video is broken down into parts of what us teens (like me and Mariana)do in our daily life. This is why my vlog would represents social class.

How does your product engage with audiences AND how would it be distributed as a real media text?

My product engages with the audience through empathy. Do you know what it’s like getting ready by yourself for an exciting event and not having your friends present with you? Well it’s kind of miserable. Everyone needs comfort. Someone who gave me inspiration for for making this video is a ten age influencer. Emma Chamberlain who is famous for her YouTube videos is known for being funny and having reliable videos. By watching emmas videos she inspired me to make my video about shared experiences. Shared experiences allow me to make connections with the viewers by becoming interested in what I do daily.

My video would most definitely be shared on TikTok and YouTube. Most music videos you  would find on YouTube and sometimes even TikTok considering it now have the ability to post 5 min videos. I absolutely love watching music videos on YouTube. If I were to play music on my phone I would go to YouTube and search up music videos that I can watch. TikTok is another platform that I would share my video pictures of its features where you can just like and scroll endlessly. Wile scrolling on TikTok, interested viewers may come across my video. This way they can exit out of tik tok and go on YouTube to watch the full music video.

How did your production skills develop throughout this project?

Throughout the process of this project I realized that things are not always simple and easy to do. I also learned how to be creative in my projects. The first thing I had to figure out if who to work with. I typically work by myself because it gets work done faster but I decided that I couldn’t do this video all alone and that I needed someone to do it with for comfort. I decided to partner up with my friend Marianna who is also in medical studies. I think working with Mariana was a great idea because she’s a fast thinker and a hardworking student who gets good grades. Once my partner was picked we needed to figure out when to do the research. That weekend we researched at a mall that was close to us.

Since I was stuck in Miami for a little bit, Mariana had some time to figure out where In the mall we were going to do our research. She decided to that we could sit in the back op corner of a smoothie and juice bar. When I arrived at the mall about 15 mins after she found the place, we began watching music videos( specifically R &B) in order to look for specific conventions. Me and Mariana watched the videos on my iPad while she took notes on her computer. This way we could when we were finished watching the videos we could go back and look at the shared themes. When we were all done researching we came up with plans for our music video. Our original plan was that we were going to make the video birthday themed and we were going to film at the beach, the park, and at a house. The date was set and only two other people arrived. It was okay because the beach scene was supposed to be short anyway. Mariana filmed the shots we wanted to include. Next we filmed at the park. Again only two other people showed up. Sill it was not serious issue. Then a couple days later Mariana’s phone breaks. The worst part is that she has not upgraded her iCloud storage, so all the media was gone. This was the challenging part of making our video. When her phone was fixed she texted me and let me know what had happened. Luckily our homecoming dance was coming up so I let her know that we could film that. From there we asked our previous actors that were going to the dance to film themselves getting ready. From all these thing happening, I learned that things might not always go as planned and that’s okay because there’s always solutions. Next time I will film with enough time that allows us to be okay with emergency’s happening.

How did you integrate technologies - software, hardware and online - in this project?

I used my phone and iPad to film and edit because it was the only available technology that I had. I do not own a camera and I did not want to buy one just to probably never use it again. Using my phone to film gave me the opportunity to film anytime I want and plus I think a phone’s camera is way better than an actual camera. To edit I used my ipad because it has a bigger screen than my phone. I used CapCut again to edit the videos because of its interesting features. Capcut is an editing app that already comes with templates, filters, and transitions accessible to anyone. Once you use CapCut and you get the hang of it, you can never stop using it to edit your photos and videos. Once I finished my video I emailed it to my computer so I could upload it to blogger. This was a very interesting project that I enjoyed.
